As a kid, library night was Tuesday. In my central Alberta hometown that was the evening that the local library stayed open. We went faithfully every week and my eyes were opened to an ever widening worlds of books.
Today, with changes in technology, libraries are much more than that. As an Ottawa we're looking forward to the opening of our own new central branch library at Adisoke in 2026. It has been envisioned as a magnificent gathering place for the people. Contemporary central libraries in Canadian and European cities are exactly what is being described here; they are aguably even the most relevant cultural space in contemporary urban life for the most people.
